"I want every yard in this city to do two jobs — feed the family who lives there and feed somebody nearby. That's the whole company."
Started in Aliquippa. Growing everywhere.
An Aliquippa horticulture practice that turned into a food-system company.
GardenSoon began with two observations made in Aliquippa: the backyard next door had turned into a 100-square-foot tomato operation feeding three neighboring households — and the food pantry two miles away was rationing fresh produce.
The founding team incorporated GardenSoon LLC in 2024, brought on Josie as the horticulturist, and spent the next year and a half building the design workflow and quoting the first client gardens. The first installs go in the ground this summer. We opened the doors publicly on Earth Day 2026, with the first Second Garden scheduled to install alongside them.
Today we are a licensed Pennsylvania contractor with a Pittsburgh-area install team, a national Design service led by Josie for any yard or space anywhere in the US, a free public Network for any gardener, and the Second Garden program that cross-subsidizes installs for food-insecure families.
We are small. We will stay small. Our goal is not to scale GardenSoon. Our goal is to scale the idea: that a backyard is infrastructure, and that growing food is the least-expensive public good any household can produce.
A small company. Named humans.
No offshored support, no unnamed account managers. When you work with GardenSoon you work with someone on this page.
Jill
She grew it before she ever bought it. Ranch kid, homesteader. First call when you reach out — she'll ask a few questions about your space and what you want, and connect you with whoever on the team is your right next step.
Josie
Designs every Blueprint and every Build plan — for any space, any scale. Reviews every customer-facing recommendation before it ships, regardless of which teammate delivered the consult. Zone 6a–6b specialist, PRO Landscape+ workflow.
Justin McLaughlin
Started the company. PA-licensed pesticide applicator — every IPM and pest-treatment recommendation gets his sign-off before it reaches a customer. Runs Second Garden recipient matching with our pantry partners.
Jordan
Walks every Pittsburgh yard before we quote. Leads every install. Working through Oregon State Extension's Master Gardener short course series — vegetable garden fundamentals, ongoing. Build recommendations to customers go through Josie's review.
We're new. There isn't press yet — only the work.
Our first installs go in the ground this summer. The first Second Garden installs alongside them. If you're covering Pittsburgh food systems, urban food production, or cross-subsidy nonprofit-adjacent business models and want to be the first piece of coverage on GardenSoon — we'd love to talk.

What we're writing this season.
Practical, opinionated, zone-specific. Written by the GardenSoon team. No SEO filler, no "10 tips" listicles. Published when we have something to say.
Why we stopped recommending the 'full sun' rule (and what we say instead).
Four hours of direct midday sun beats six hours of scattered morning sun — and we've got the three-season data to prove it. What the Pittsburgh yard is really giving you, and how we audit for it during a video walk-through.

We did a side-by-side on four Pittsburgh installs. Here's what worked and what didn't.

Behind the scenes on our first Pittsburgh installs. The plant-list PDF, the yard-visit notes, how budget flexes into materials, and what we learned from garden one to garden three.

We read and answer everything within two business days. Pittsburgh build inquiries usually get a same-day callback if you leave a phone number.
