If you’ve killed basil on a windowsill, you’re not alone. Most indoor herb failures come down to light and watering rhythm.
The simplest setup
- Light: bright window + supplemental light if the room is dim.
- Container: drainage holes + saucer.
- Soil: a quality potting mix (not garden soil).
- Watering: water thoroughly, then let the top inch dry.

- Chives
